Google has reported that it will contribute A$1bn ($740m, £550m) in Australia over the course of the following five years.
It is the US innovation monster's biggest interest in the nation to date.
Google says the cash will be help build a hub for research, enable increases in cloud computing capability and provide the funds to form local organisational partnerships.
The move - named the Digital Future Initiative - may result in the creation of 6,000 positions and benefit 28,000 in total. Google boss Sundar Pichai said:
"Australia can help lead the world's next wave of innovation, harnessing technology to improve lives, create jobs, and make progress,"
His comments were made during the launch of the project in Sydney. This event was also attended by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who added:
"The decision by Google has major benefits for Australian businesses as we engage with the economic recovery before us."
Some of the local strategic partnerships that Google will form have the intent of including Australia's science office the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).
Joshua Kennedy-White of digital speculation organization DivisionX Global, in commenting on the announcement said:
"It takes money to move an idea into innovation and the first money is the hardest to come by...If Google cut $250k cheques to promising start-ups, they could fund 4,000 new tech companies in Australia,"
